Self-care Darkspots style!

Recently I contacted Darkspots as I love what they do and knew that you would too. They run a monthly subscription service offering products, activities and tips to help you through your ‘dark spots’.

I often get asked, ‘what tips do you have for managing anxiety/depression?’. To which my answer usually includes keeping a self-care box. What is this? Well I’m glad you asked.¬†

The idea of a self-care box is to collect items that will help you when you feel low or anxious. For example, a detailed colouring book can help you take your mind off of things and help you to calm down. You may like to include a memory or photo to remind you of good times.

Darkspots works by doing something similar to this. Every month they send out items and tips which may help you with your mental health. You could add some of those items to your self-care box, or use the monthly subscriptions as your self-care box instead.

Darkspots kindly sent me their August box so I could tell you more about what they do. So here we go!

  1. I often find that doing something creative is a great way to calm me down. With a Spirograph set, you don’t need to put much thought into creating wonderful designs. This is a great stress reliever and an excellent addition to your self-care activities.
  2. Taking care of yourself is an essential part of self-care, so the Body Shop soap bar is an excellent addition to your skin care routine.
  3. Studies show that trust and relationships can grow as a result of a simple game of catch. The bouncy globe ball literally reminds you that your world is your oyster and that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. For me, the globe is a reminder of how far my blog has reached so far.
  4. I love the summer themed pineapple stress reliever. Stress balls originated in ancient China around 1368 AD. They are intended to be rotated in your palm in order to stimulate acupressure points on the hand.
  5. The beautiful ‘anxiety warrior’ badge was handmade by Sam Martin. This is a great way to acknowledge your achievements and bravery whilst also reducing the stigma. Sam has an etsy store (ChronicallyDivine) – take a look!
  6. Every month, Darkspots offers you a helpful suggestion to help with your mental health. In the August box, it helps you to manage bad days in a logical way.
